Average Girl: Bob Skinstad
Headed to the 27dinner at The Wild Fig.
Fae drove us there in a Z4.
Want attention?
Put two, 20 something girls in a male, midlife crisis car.
Driving with Fae in said Z4 was nerve-wracking, endearing and entertaining. Kept getting repeatedly stuck in the seatbelt so couldn’t help her search for oncoming cars and despite my best efforts to convince it otherwise, it would only tune into Umhlobo Fm.
Had also learnt earlier in the day that Z4 suspension is non-existent, so had worn a good bra.
With suspect directions, intriguing navigation and wondering for quite some time how to turn the lights on, we made it.
Cape Town throws the best 27dinners (this is officially official). Found out it’s called the 27 dinner because of the day it’s held on… for all those too shy to look stupid when asking, I took one for the team.
Was a great choice of venue as it came with its own set of police cars and was next to the local psychiatric hospital (never overestimate the sanity of geeks in large groups).
Sat next to the speaker (the box, not a person) … so was temporarily deaf for most of the evening. This, coupled with my poor vision resulted in a lot of nodding, smiling and being ripped off by most of the table.
Former Springbok rugby player, Bob Skinstad was one of the speakers. Raising awareness for his foundation: bobsforgood. Think it’s a great cause, so go off and support them … right now (well after you’ve finished reading this).
Tinus Le Roux a.k.a the guy before Bob introduced us to Virtual Africa and their awesomely awesome 360 virtual tours. I did think these were ridiculously cool; we even got our very own one.
Met Bob, got a few pics with him and unfortunately, completely forgot my own name when he asked me. Wish I were lying… I totally blanked. I even giggled apparently. There were several witnesses. Recovered and managed to get all 5 letters out eventually.
I think it may have had something to do with the tequila.
It must also go on record that this guy shamelessly framed me for stealing this guys car keys.
Oh, try the chocolate tart thing! Trust me, it’s good. Fae unfortunately sent it spinning across the table… turns out their chocolate desserts are pretty durable
