I’m on a mission to buy local, and support small, independent brands where and when I can. Not only do your rands mean more to them, but so does your support. Large retail doesn’t care if you buy another carton of milk or another innovative mince pie, but your purchase makes a real, tangible and appreciated difference to small, hard-working, independent brands. I’ll be posting about them over the next wee while and first up is …
-HandMade by Me-
Sera Holland is the designer behind Handmade By Me, a bespoke textile design company, based at 21 De Lorentz street. HBM creates beautiful, handmade, textile products and their designs are unique and quirky. The shops offers tea towels, cushion covers, linen and even placemats decorated with pretty proteas, prickly pears and african aloes.
I discovered HBM because I was searching for non-fabric placemats which were blue and weren’t covered in pictures of chickens. The search took a lot longer than expected. I tried @Home, Takealot, Woolies, Mr Price and YuppieChef and finally found them in Handmade by Me’s online store. #Celebration. Sadly they are laminated paper and not board, but I’m hoping they’ll last just as long. The placemats are gorgeous, they’re easy to wipe down and they’re really durable.
Like I’ve said a few times now, they have some beautiful patterns that are uniquely South African and fun. the flamingo hotel slippers are adorable and I’ve also got my eye on the pretty proteas lampshade.
Pop in for a visit, or check out their online store here.
Happy shopping :)
