In a few weeks, dear old Liz will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee [FYI this is a Big Deal].

And yes Fae and I shall drink tea, eat little cakes, flutter flags and spend the day being terribly British to mark the occasion. Because Queen Elizabeth II has basically been ruling Britain [and donning bad hats] for 60 years. Go Liz!

60 years is a pretty lengthy innings by royal standards, plus she hasn’t had to behead anyone. Winning. [Although the jury is still out on Diana [jokes]].

Anyway, twitter told me that Harrods had asked a few notable, luxury brands to give the crown a facelift in Liz’s honour.  Apparently you can see them all on display in the Harrods windows. But if you can’t get to London, you can see them here or a few of my faves below.

This is my favorite. Seriously hope there’s a little MINI tucked away somewhere in that chaos.

Last week I got to snap some photos of the Motribe team for Formal Friday. Yeah that’s correct, we actually have a dress-up day. [I didn't have  Lagerfeld art direction, or Leibovitz flare but I'm convinced my models were far more talented.]

Anyway, if you ever visit us on a Friday, best you don your fanciest shoes, suit and tie, otherwise you won’t get through the door! You can read all about the official version of events here, but these are some of my favourites.

I attended Net Prophet last week [as did half the world - that event has gotten seriously popular] and got to hear some tips from Ruby Box founder, Sylvia Gruber. Her talk, Seven Start-Up Sins described their highs, their pitfalls and their genuine gratitude to their online community of Rubies.

I’d heard a lot of the tips before, but it was a good reminder of where start-ups can (and often do) go wrong. It was also seriously refreshing to see a female stand up on stage and give solid advice.

Ruby Box are locally funded and supply their luxury beauty boxes to females all across South Africa. The boxes are seriously rad [sucker for hot packaging] and include 4-5 samples from high-profile, beauty brands. You get to try out products for a fraction of the cost and you get the box delivered right to your door. Winning.

I’m all for supporting a local start-up, especially one as pretty as this. I love the concept, the pretty packaging and the Ruby Box attitude.

So remember a while back when Jameson held a competition for young filmmakers? They would select 3 winning films, pick up the production costs and place Kevin Spacey in the lead role. Every filmmaker’s dream right?

Can you imagine getting that call? “Congrats, you’ve won… oh and you’re going to be giving direction to Kevin. Piece of cake. You’ll walk it really.”

I would have passed out!

Well. Here is the finished product from South Africa. Spirit of a Denture starring Kevin Spacey and written and directed by our very own Alan Shelley. Apparently it’s Spacey’s first short and I think it rocks.

Well done Alan. Major, major kudos dude.
