Bafana: Get The GoalKeepers

Our proudly South African, Bafana Bafana World Cup squad was announced on 01 June 2010. Admittedly and rather shockingly I know very little about our Soccer Stars. I know that our strip is yellowy Green, that people are really upset that Benni got left out in the cold and that one of them is the face of every LG ad … but other than that .

I am fresh out.

Don’t panic if you’re also a few players short of a full Bafana, you’ve come to the right place.

Itumeleng Khune

Born 20 June 1987 in Ventersdorp, Khune is a fantabulous goalkeeper!

He currently protects the nets of Kaizer Chiefs and of course Bafana. He made his international debut against Zimbabwe on March 11, 2008

If he gets bored of soccer… he can always take up ballet

Moeneeb Josephs

Born 19th May 1980, Josephs hails from Cape Town .

He currently plays for Orlando Pirates and is nicknamed Slim Kat. He made his debut at the age of 17 in 1997, playing for the Cape Town Spurs.

I like his “Game Face!”

Lets hope it scares the pants off Mexico in the opening game!

Shu-Aib Walters

Born December 6th 1981, this Cape Town keeper usually spends his time in the Maritzburg United goals.

Soccer Moment: His spectacular save he pulled against Orlando Pirates striker Siphelele Mthembu at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

He made his Premier Soccer League debut in 2006. He looks like he can throw pretty far.

Grow Smart Book Drive

I wandered into this box at Constantia Village today.

This rather empty box, which contains a YOU magazine, is part of the Grow Smart project. Grow Smart is trying to spread awareness for the importance of literacy in the Western Cape.

I don’t know about you but I dont think the YOU magazine is really the best we can do for our leaders of tomorrow! If it is … um…eeeek!

So from one bookworm to another, please pop by and drop your new/used childrens books into the box. You’ll find the box outside Woolworths.

Help A Theatre

Everything seems to be going the way of The Cape Town City Ballet…. as I watch arts initiatives run out of money and eventually into the ground, it makes my heart break. I just can’t watch it happen to the Masque theatre in Muizenberg. It is negotiating some tough financial times.

This theatre holds a very special place in my heart. It has touched the lives of all who have worked on or behind the stage. Building sets, designing props, ferreting through the costume cupboard and munching biscuits in the green room. I was even taught how to play cards backstage.

Theatre changes lives: really. I wish you could all experience it.

The Theatre is home to Amateur Drama, it has given many actors a chance and allowed most to create amazing memories. You can rarely look back and fail to smile on your time there. I sat on stage last night, swinging my legs and looking out over the empty chairs. I can’t see it die out.

There are others who feel the same @OpiumSkye , @TheDramaKing , @Faerie452 we’re on a crusade to try and raise funds. We’re not sure how to do it and if we fail miserably it’s ok, because at least we tried

Support Local Theatre: Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice, a romantic comedy by Jon Jory, based on the novel by Jane Austen has arrived at the Masque Theatre. This very user-friendly version of a classic novel has a very youthful cast and is set in England in 1813. It has been so much fun working on this production, please come support.

Theatre Is Better Than DSTV

My DSTV is doing battle with the Cape of Storms and it’s losing spectacularly . I am pressing MENU 13 in vain and repeatedly pulling out the smart card … although it has expressively told me not to. What does it know?

Hopelessly I sit, switching the little box that holds my key to 19 billion and 1 channels on and off. What did people do for fun in the Dark Ages ?

And as the little grey box bobs around the screen, telling me at 9 o clock at night to contact my installer ( who? ) I sit here and realise that going to the Theatre is frankly much better,

because
- There is a bar and a bar tender.
- You wont’ have to sit through routine ads for LG, Vodacom, Yummy, Sparkly ‘this is not a scripted advert’ Pear juice or Yoghurt that keeps Miss Jones regular
- You don’t have to watch Bear Grylls and his magic backpack not get eaten by a Grizzly bear.
- If Eskom wants to play hide and seek with the electricity, the play can make a plan to still continue… if not there is point 1 and you will get a refund.
- The program is correct, unlike the 5 line DSTV, info description. Whoever writes those is not paid enough and should consider watching the shows.
- None of the actors are Australian ( worrying tv presenter trend in SA).
- The scenes run in the correct order. They don’t just decided to drop 2 scenes and jump ahead to the finale. Additionally they don’t decide to cut the finale either.
- The play doesn’t stop due to bad weather … unless it’s Maynardville.
- The only bouquets are the ones that the actors get for a good show.
- The actors do not emit an electrical humming noise because one of their wires is a bit loose.
- The actors do not suffer from interference when a cloud moves between them and a satellite in outer space.
- The scene doesn’t jump like a damaged DVD during important moments (controversial wickets) because reception from India is poor.
- You don’t have to see numerous SA personalities doing the ‘soccer’ dance.
- You don’t have to hear impassioned speeches riddled with censorship holes and then miss more action while you are fiddling about with the language options.
- There are no fights over the remote… because there is no remote.
- There are no demographically perfect groups of South Africans blowing vuvuzelas, braaing and kicking soccer balls stating the obvious ” It is here, I was there , It is possible.”
- Dali Mpofu is not and never will be the director
