So I’ve been following the local Come Dine With Me. I’ve kinda been watching and painstakingly waiting for it to give me some sort of local wow factor. So far it’s just made me cringe in outright horror at my fellow South Africans!

Well the wow-factor has arrived in the form of Aubrey Ngcungama. A resting man.

He’s heelarious, more British than the British and probably the best thing to happen to South African television since Scot Scott (crucial spelling)… ( although I’m not sure that’s how to spell it).

Anyway, he’s kicked off with his own cooking show: Dinner With Aubs. Check it out; I think he’s hysterical plus you get a rendition of the National anthem and a great recipe for Spicy Butternut Soup. Follow him on twitter, or check out his blog. Oh I say, he’s simply delightful, old chap!

ITWB: Mexican, Feeshes and Warm Houses

Sam and Gareth got engaged! And had Birthdays… and it was Mexican and I am ridiculously happy for both of them. I finally got to meet @LolabyTheSea, @GinaHowse and @Garethismyname [ sorry for this party tweet in a post]. The ever awesome Charly’s Bakery designed these rockstar cupcakes. I know you all knows this, but that bakery does rock. Plus personalised cupcakes are a really great present.

Saturday saw The Racer and I getting lost in the stix…we seem to keep doing this. We were already late, so it wasn’t the best time to take an unexplored detour BUT I am a very wise GPS and we found the way back to the Biscuit Mill.. plus we also found this really great street-art. How cool?

A morning at the Biscuit Mill/ Hipster City. Secretly I’m just jealous because I can’t fit into size triple zero ,skinny jeans… and most of the men there can. The Ninja and Dr Who found these cupcakes. I found a gourmet breakfast burger and it was amazing.

You need to eat it.

Hit the aquarium with The Greek, The Gardener and several underwater sea creatures. I LOVE the aquarium. Oddly enough the best bit was watching a bunch of tourists diving in the predator tank. Vulnerable, newbie scuba divers who are obviously nervous around Sharks are far more entertaining than ANY fish could ever hope to be [ sorry Nemo]. They were also being led by a diver who can only be described as an Underwater Santa Claus… and he had a walking stick. Obvs. No respectable diver goes diving without a walking aid.

Did you know the Predator tank is sponsored by I&J. How’s that for irony?

A housewarming for V, a Fea that dipped her bruschetta in her wine [it's on the blog now Fea, now the world knows!], and possibly my smoothest,most awkward introduction ever. Ever. I wish you’d been there. The Photographer took some beautiful pics. His work is really taking off, please check it out.

Right I really just wrote this post so I could show off the pic of the street art.I also wanted to try out the nickname thing…I’m not sure I’m sold on the idea.

Maybe it’ll grow on me.

How cool is this? Such a rad example of stop-motion… with about 2 zillion jellybeans.

Plus it’s a pretty cute song. Makes me think of Juno and Little Miss Sunshine and all those feel-good movies.

ITWB: KOL, Weddings and Expensive Mistakes

I saw my band. They finally arrived and they blew my expectations out of the water. They were worth the early wake up to get tickets, the mindless queuing for 2.5 hours without coffee and surrounded by screeching, teenagers decorated in plaid. They were worth the physical pain I endured because I missed getting GC tickets by 1 useless tween and his useless, indecisive, plaid friends on the other end of his blackberry. [I haven't forgotten you pseudo Farmer Brown.]Their set was amazing. Old songs, new songs and amazing live visuals of the band.

What a concert! Definitely for the older KOL fans and not the sex on fire groupies swathed in leopard print.

Coldplay was pretty average by comparison.

Went to a wedding out in Wellington. Thanks to menopausal Cape Town weather [you are hopeless] I went out and bought a pashmina to keep me warm and/or dry. If you don’t know what a pashmina is, let me educate you. I shopped around Constantia Village and worked out that the average pashmina was going to cost about R100-R150. I eventually found one that I liked in a fancy-pants store which was tucked away in a quiet, little corner.

[Stick with me, this story gets better.]

I picked it up, the price tag said R135 [or so I thought]. It was so soft and pretty: what a steal! I handed it over, swiped my card, and halfway through signing the slip I noticed an extra zero hanging about. I had misread the tag. Yes that’s right folks, I had just paid R1350… for a pashmina. I almost threw up in a nearby potplant. Happiness may be expensive … but extreme horror ain’t cheap either. I can only conclude that the pashmina was made by blind nuns in India, then sent via Tibet [where it was blessed by the Dalai Lama himself, obvs] and then flown back to Cape Town in Trumps personal jet.

This above pic was taken just before we left on the epic journey to the wedding. [Got lost on the way home; Mbekweni rocks.] And if you look closely, you’ll note that there is NO pashmina. The pic below was taken when we were half-way there and round about the time that I realised I had forgotten the world’s most expensive pashmina, at home, in my bedroom, on my dressing table.

Great.

This is now my official “I fail at life” face.

Lessons Learnt: Read the pricetag. Don’t forget stuff. Don’t buy pashminas. Superglue things to yourself.
