Earlier this year, the UCT class of Postgraduate Entrepreneurial students were set the challenge of starting a small business from just a R50 loan. As part of the project they needed to conceptualise, design and produce an innovative and eco-friendly product, which they launched to the public on the 8th August. Unfortunately the Business Science class was not as cool as this. We didn’t get to design products… we had to write a thesis. Not nearly as beautiful, nor as useful some would argue. They’ve come up with some interesting concepts, including this stunning Bamboo Time Piece from Bamboo Revolution. […]
In 1999, this newborn gorilla called Yankini got a check-up from his doctor. He was surprised at how cold the stethoscope was and a photographer was able to capture the moment. It’s doing the rounds on the Internet at the momement and frankly, is this not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? Made my day. Who needs snow? I’ve got this baby gorilla to look at. (Hat tip to @Tash for this)
There have been some beautiful, breathtaking and feel-good pictures thanks to the snowfall in and around Joburg today. But this is hands down the best of the lot. Major hat tip to Lorna Fuller, who appears to have captured this incredible image of one of the lions at the Joburg Zoo. I love living in South Africa.
I’ve posted about Bird Box in the past… I just can’t remember when, where or why. I think it was the post about this little short. Anyway, none of that really matters, because they’ve come up with another cute, comical and quirky animation. Check it out, hat tip to @Lynne for the share.
If you’ve been reading this blog since the baby days, you’ll know that I’m quite a fan of all things SteamPunk. From cars, to fashion, to entire houses, there isn’t much that has escaped the Steampunk treatment. Here are some of the more moden adaptations, including headphones, a laptop, a mouse and a PS3. I really do want the headphones. Badly.
I love the Steampunk design movement. It’s termed the intersection of technology and romance and I can’t think of a more suitable way to describe the visually striking contrast that this style achieves or the curiosity it evokes. To me, it is just downright beautiful. The latest item to be adapted is the MINI countryman, which has now been dubbed the SteamMINI. This little, time machine look-alike knocks spots off the Delorean [ sorry Doc] and was created by the masterminds over at Carlex Design. The ornate touches, the copper hues, the wood, the rich brown leather and the mechanical cogs have […]
I'm Robyn. And no, I don't know where Batman is. Love my own jokes, smooth jazz, Pixar shorts and taking photos. Dislike spiders and pretty sure I'm not keen on sky-diving. Been known to have deep and meaningful conversations with your voicemail. Live in the suburbs, even though I don't have a horse, any children or a yacht. Have a girl crush on Maggie Smith. Make terrible typos on a regular basis. And lastly, you can call me Hobs.
