Simply. I love this place.
I love the sound of feet hitting the boards, the atmosphere before curtain up and the fact that you can’t take sweets inside, so you have to eat them at light-speed during the interval.
I love getting a program, I love walking up the stairs, I love it when the lights start to dim and I love it when the speakers sound like they’re eating sparkles. I’m hooked on this place… I even love the “switch off your phones” pretty please announcement.
Most of all, I love the shows.
But.
Every time I visit, I really want to be up there on that stage. And for a small moment I feel sad that I’m not. I can’t explain it. But it’s not a bad thing, it’s a good reminder of what I’m truly passionate about.
Plus I always, always walk out of here on a high.
Thanks to the Fabulous Guy on my right … your left. I got to be the official, arm-candy and head over to the Artscape for opening night of Annie.
Arriving horridiously early. My fault because I’m punctual to the max. We decided to ‘over-document’ this event. This made me happy, because I could finally play with iMovie ( was getting to the point where I was going to go out and take footage of the garden snails to have something to edit).
I’m quite a geek this way. Text effects. Let’s just say that LiveType rocked my world.
We ran into Fae. We then had a definitive ”No, but what are you doing here?” moment.
Hilarious that she gets a BB, we officially become an over-connected friendship and we don’t know we’re both going to Opening night…. of a show where we know most of the cast.
Annie is awesome. Go and see it!
It’s such a rad, feel-good piece of theatre. The kind you find yourself singing along with. Yes, I sang in my seat. I even danced. Special mention goes out to the Orphans. They were Brilliant! It’s really great to see little kids up on stage. Trust: Things are looking good for the future of theatre in this country.
It’s an amateur production, which only means that no one gets paid. Not a dime, not a dollar. And any committed performer will know the blood, sweat, tears and hours of dedication that goes into something like this.
The whole cast is just up there. Doing what they love. Simply for the love of it.
And that’s pretty awesome I think.

(This was just for fun. It was spontaneous as well. Don’t take it too seriously. Because too much Serious-ness gives people headaches. And headaches aren’t fun.)
